When was I supposed to write this entry again? 2 weeks ago? Now you know how low my commitment level is; VERY.
Anyhoo, without further ado, let’s start the rewind of October 2017!
“Here comes my second favourite month of the year,” I said to my self as I exhaled my way out of September. I still remember how I was up the whole night towards the closing of September 2017. I was not in the most stable state of myself as my mind was full of a lot. I sat through the whole evening thinking of the goals that I wanted to achieve by the end of October 2017. And I started the month off by witnessing the sunrise from my apartment’s balcony with the Bible app opened on my hand. And in that moment, I just felt the zest to dive into the upcoming month.
For this month’s bullet journal, I decided to stick with animated spooky theme just because it was the month of Halloween.
Well yeah, the cover ain’t spooky. I just felt that the cover should resemble the autumn season. Spot the falling leaves as the hint of it!
It was my first time making a monthly spread so I decided to make it more traditional for whatever reasons. And I had orange colour paper sticking on it as the base since my drawing was too visible on the back page.
For my weekly spread, I kept it organised by having:
- a mini monthly spread on top left corner,
- weekly overview on the left side,
- daily tracker as my main entries, and
- a mini side note on the bottom right corner.
This was my first time doing weekly spread and I am enjoying this style somehow. So, I have been using the same one up ’til now.
Notice how I kept it blank as I actually took these pictures on the 1st week of October. And yet, it took me 3 months to finally upload them and blog them out. Good job, self.
I ended the weekly spread with a habit tracker right next to the page. I chose this layout as I was going through some inspirations on Pinterest. And to be honest, I like it very much! I put the goal list on the bottom of the page to remind me every time I was about to log in my journal. Just so that I wouldn’t have chance to cheat on it, haha.
The spread followed by the budget tracker and task tracker.
I divided the budget tracker with two categories; wants & needs. And I purposely made the entry for ‘wants’ to be shorter, lol.
Task tracker was something that my ex-supervisor, Fei, introduced me. On my first 1-on-1 evaluation meeting with her, she consulted me with some ways to keep my tasks away from distraction whenever it strikes me. Yeah, I am VERY easily distracted. I find this method to be one of the most effective ones for me so far. And I reckon that I would do another blog post about this task tracker particularly. Hopefully by next week, you should be able to have a read of it!
This was just some random scribbles to keep my mind away from negative thoughts, haha. Just some quote from Ed Sheeran’s – What Do I Know? lyrics on the right page and some ideas to keep myself stay happy on the left page.
Another page of budget tracker just because I had finished half of the entry on my second week of October, HAHA.
And at the end, I created an entry for my notes dedicated for my internship-related stuff.
Aside from bullet journalling, I took the opportunity to gain a new experience related to handlettering; digitalising my own font!
I took the inspiration of ‘Playlist Script’ from BeFonts.com and only managed to digitalise the fonts that are used on the names appearing in the picture above. Ain’t nobody got time to make the fonts for each alphabetical letters, haha.
I would probably put up a tutorial on this somewhere on February. It was actually quite feasible, depending on the amount of time taken and resources put into it.
Now, it’s the rewind of my personal highlights of the month!
October was the beginning of a new quarter in the company I was interning. That means, FUN HUNT! As fun as it sounds, FUN HUNT is basically a mega quarterly outing that includes every single employee to participate. It took place in Pangkor Island for like, 2 nights.
It was indeed an exhilarating, stress-free outing that truly bonded me closer with the colleagues I worked with. New friendships, trusts, and adventures were built through it and I am glad I was a part of it! Needless to say, hectic & chaotic were also there along the time when we were planning and executing it. But, it was all worth it!
A reason to find excitement in October is the festive celebration of Deepavali! The whole office celebrated it around mid of October. What was meant to be a traditional/ formal outing turned out to be a ‘Holi’ festival and arranged marriage between the two colleagues of mine. Ended the celebration with some drinks because it’s never lame with these people!
Notice how I had a bandage wrapped around my right knee. This was the month I fell, sprained my ankle, injured my knee, and cracked my phone screen. But hey, it was not too shabby for me as I had friends to walk me home after I injured myself.
The closing of October has always been a bang for me. Other than spending the 31st with Halloween, I celebrate the 30th with a birthday of myself. Was never the kind of person who loves my own birthday, but I somewhat find joy in it. I mean, people suddenly become nicer to you and pay more attention to you. Although it only lasts for maximum of 48 hours, but it’s still nice nonetheless. Got the privilege to celebrate my birthday with awesome colleagues. Received two cakes and 1 surprise treat arriving at the office and I can’t feel more overwhelmed with blessings coming out of those.
I guess I could say that this was the month of reflection to me. I feel like I could pull out the tangled strings of thoughts I have been having the past months and somehow traced them back to smoothen the whole thing. This month was incredible for me and I have my supporting family and friends to thank for. For finally letting me be myself again after months of feeling like I was somebody else.
I hope that I lighten up your day through this current post and the upcoming ones.
Yours truly,
Lavainnah.
